MOUNTIES WIN THIRD IN A ROW
Fresh off a 9 - 1 win over the Simcoe Storm last Sunday, the Mounties carried that momentum into two weekend contests. On the road Friday, the Mounties handed the Norwich Merchants a 4 - 3 defeat in a hard fought physical game. The Merchants jumped out to a 3 -1 lead at the first intermission but the Mounties chipped away at the deficit and
ground out a victory. Saturday the Mounties returned home to their largest crowd of the season and put on anything but a defensive display. The Dunnville Mudcats were in town and gave the Mounties all they could handle and more. The Mounties this time jumped out to a 3 - 1 lead after the 1st period only to see the Mudcats put up 7 goals and go into the dressing room with an 8 - 5 lead after the 2nd. "Far too much individual play and absolutely no thought about playing defence at all" said coach Tim Macdonald. "I really don't know what we were thinking but let's just say I let them know that their play was unacceptable and sent them a little message after the 2nd." Apparently the message got through because the Mounties outscored the Cats 6 - 0 in the third period and took the game with an 11 - 8 final score. "Ugly to say the least but I'm proud of the guys for responding the way they did in the third" said Macdonald. "Hopefully we learned a lesson tonight that we can't take anything for granted. We have to play a team game to be successful and if we don't we simply won't win many hockey games. We'll highlight that fact in our video session on Thursday so they can see it for themselves." The Mounties will try to make it four in a row when they travel to Grimsby to take on the undefeated Peach Kings. The team travels to Aylmer on Saturday in the first of a home and home series with the Spitfires. The Mounties return home on a rare Monday night game when the host the back end of the home and home with the Spits
